Overview

Forget stage hypnotism or anything you may have seen on TV. This is very different.

When you come to me for hypnotherapy, I am your guide, helping you to explore and understand the way your mind works. Through this process, you’ll discover what you can do to achieve the change you’re seeking. All the work is done by you, and you are in control at all times.

My approach is wholly client-centred, which means I do not make assumptions about what your subconscious mind may or may not know. I simply guide you to access your subconscious so we can find the root cause of the problem and address it.

Hypnotherapy works to ensure your actions and reactions are ones that help rather than hinder; the thoughts and behaviours you would choose to do and have, as you go about your daily life.

Gaining this sense of control means you can enjoy being the best version of yourself, free from limiting beliefs and happier than ever before. And the power to achieve these changes, small or big, lies entirely within your own mind.

Common problems I can help with using hypnotherapy:

  • An unwanted automatic reaction in certain circumstances e.g. blushing when making presentations.
  • A limiting belief about yourself, leading to feeling uncomfortably shy or not good enough.
  • A fear of doing something or being somewhere in particular.
  • Intrusive worries about what may happen in the future.
  • Addictions to smoking or inability to manage your weight.
  • Fear of giving birth.

Highlights

There are many hypnotherapy techniques. After listening to you and evaluating your needs, I will explain which technique is the best fit for you.

The number of sessions varies, but tends to be only a few – usually between 3 and 5. The relatively low number of sessions is one of the great advantages of hypnotherapy, although it’s important to note that stopping smoking and weight management generally take at least two sessions to be effective.

What to expect during your hypnotherapy sessions

The most important thing to understand is that you are always in control. At every moment, you are not sleeping but fully aware and deciding what to think and imagine.

My role is to facilitate communication between your conscious and subconscious, so you are able to align the two and change the thoughts, feelings, behaviours or habits causing problems.

I simply guide you through suggestions, which you either accept or choose not to, at every step of the way

Our first session lasts 1.5-1.75 hours. We will discuss your issue: what it is, when it triggers, how you tend to overcome it, and what does and doesn’t help. I will then take the time to explain what hypnotherapy is and answer any questions you may have, before taking you through your first guided hypnosis. After you leave and before our next session, I will devise a tailored therapy plan.

Subsequent sessions last 1-1.15 hours, spent mostly in hypnosis.

I’m Laura Artero, a hypnotherapist, mindfulness meditation teacher, mum, yoga lover (and recently teacher!), avid reader and people lover. I’m fascinated by the human mind; how it works and its potential. I am dedicated to helping you achieve your full potential – to feel in control of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours – because I know this is a proven and effective way of leading a free and happy life. I believe we all have the power to overcome self-imposed limitations and challenges. Qualifications I’m a fully qualified and insured hypnotherapist, holding a Diploma in Hypnotherapy. I am a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register and the General Hypnotherapy Standard Council, and bound by their codes of ethics. I studied Parts Therapy and Regression with Roy Hunter. I’m also a HypnoBirthing practitioner, affiliated to the HypnoBirthing Institute and also registered with the Federation of Antenatal Educators (FEDANT). I’m also a Mindfulness Meditation teacher and Vinyasa Yoga teacher

How does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy works by enabling the conscious and subconscious to find agreement. Problems occur when the two are misaligned – when the subconscious causes reactions that are not helpful to the way you live your life, and your automatic responses to stress and other triggers are causing issues.

As your hypnotherapist, I will guide you to explore and understand the relationship between your conscious mind’s decision-making and subconscious mind’s reactions, so you can realign the two and correct negative patterns.

Understanding the conscious and subconscious minds

Our conscious mind is analytical, evaluating all that we come into contact with. Conscious thoughts are quick and make a lot of noise. Our unconscious mind is bigger – and not analytical. Instead, it ‘receives’, absorbing our life experiences. This then becomes a programme, a pattern of behaviours, triggered every time we’re in a similar situation, providing our automatic responses to everyday life.

Most programming takes place during childhood, when the conscious mind is first learning to judge situations. Some programming is useful no matter our age, but some becomes less useful as we grow older and move into adulthood. This type of programming becomes limiting beliefs and behaviours that we cannot control, leading to frustration and unhappiness.

A logical, conscious decision to change the programmed response is not enough. When a logical decision is in conflict with the unconscious, the unconscious will win. This is the point at which I can help you.
